Can you believe that it has been an entire week since we were having a GLOW Party at the MCSCS!!! Thank you Parent-Teacher Group for hosting a wonderful event for the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. A great night of dancing, conga-lines, limbo, GLOW Stix, and line dancing. Thank you to the DJ and parents for making it such a memorable night. Check out the pics and remember to dance and play outside during April Break!

Are you ready to RUMBLE? The March Informational Book Madness competition came to an end and the WINNER was revealed at a very lively assembly on Thursday, April 16th.
The assembly started with 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students playing a game of Basketball Knock-Out and the two winning students, Camden and Cade, moved on to compete against the teachers. The FINAL winner was a 4th Grade student, Cade. Way to complete against the teachers!
Check out the pics, the final two books and then the BIG reveal! The BEST was that the author of the book sent a personalized message to the MCSCS thanking them for the vote and a little bit about their journey as authors. The winning book was The True and Lucky Life of a Turtle. A special thanks to Mrs. LaPointe and Ms. Murray for coordinating and to all the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers and students for all the reading and voting.
The BEST part was kids and teachers WON lots and lots of GREAT books! Happy Vacation and don't forget to read over break.

Mrs. Fissette's class love their Taskmaster challenges every Thursday and Friday. Our challenge for last week was to build the tallest tower that could hold a tennis ball, but without being able to speak to their group!

We are especially proud of the 15 recipients from our Margaret Chase Smith Community Schoolโ thank you for representing our school, and congratulations on this incredible achievement.
A big thank you goes to the event sponsors, Skowhegan Savings Bank, Franklin Savings Bank, and Redington Fairview General Hospital. Thank you for always supporting our students' dreams, you made all of this possible!

Mrs. Borwn's 2nd Graders and Mrs. Bernard's Kindergarten students love to get together to read books. Check out the book buddies in action and reading to one another. MCSCS Community School helping students to connect and mentor one another.

MSAD 54โs District Wide Community Champion is Kathy Dorko!
Kathy is the English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher and Coordinator, where she works closely with students, families, and teachers to support children whose first language is not English. As part of her role, Kathy collaborates with several community organizations to support families with resources, and organizes events like the Multi-Cultural Family Night, celebrating all of the places our students and their families come from. She consistently goes above and beyond to make students and families feel safe, supported, and a part of this community. Kathyโs compassion and dedication ensure that every student feels valued and equipped to thriveโmaking our school and community stronger and more inclusive.
Congratulations, Kathy, we are so lucky to have you as a part of our community!

Our hearts are so very full !!! Mrs. Brown's kiddos reading their biographies and autobiographies to their K reading buddies . 2nd For ME Unit 3 is all about auto biographies and biographies . Look at the proud 2nd graders sharing their learning.

Once students have earned their puzzle piece for being kind as a class they will put them on the giant puzzle that is hung in the school lobby. The students at MCSCS are good at being kind so we are positive that our puzzle will fill up quickly.
Thanks to our leaders Mrs. Pono, Mrs. Everett and the Civil Right's Team for having the vision and plans to spread kindness across our school.

April 11th @ the MCSCS from 10am-11am

Mrs. Allen's 5th Grade class planned a โgardening unitโ to do with pre-k. On Tuesday, March 31st we showed a video about planting, explored larger Lima beans to understand a seeds make up, and then ended with a buddy read. The 5th graders checked out picture books that went along with gardening, vegetables and seeds last week from library. The 5th graders loved being teachers to the Pre-K students and that is what the Margaret Chase Smith Community School is all about

We wrapped up our unit by creating our very own classroom market. Students made their own goods, designed advertisements, discussed the value of their products, and had the exciting opportunity to sell their items to our Kindergarten friends.
It was a fun, hands-on experience that brought our learning to life!

Here are a few pictures from our shopping experience at Mrs. Crep's Class Market. The first graders have been working hard on their end of Unit 3 project. The 1st graders made goods for us to come and buy with Crep's cash. Some of the items included recycled crayons, sun-catchers, pens, beaded jewelry, and wood magnets.
This experience helped kindergartens think about how they could solve problems, create, and earn money. We then went back to class and wrote about ways we could make goods to sell.

With the help of Aspire River Hawks, all 4th grade students from the Margaret Chase Smith Community School were able to take a trip to the State House and Blaine House. Students toured both the Senate and House Chambers, and learned about signing up to be an Honorary Page! Thank you Aspire RiverHawks for the fun trip!

The students in Mrs. Ashe's class finished the read-a-thon with 5,638 minutes read as a classroom TEAM! To celebrate the students focused on free reading, reading classic stories like Robin Hood and King Arthur, and played games reviewing literary elements! Finding the love for reading is magical and the students have certainly found some fun!

April 11th @ the MCSCS from 10am-11am

Mrs. Noyes' 3rd Grade class joined Mrs. LaPointe's 4th Grade class to listen to the 4th graders read their adventure books that they crafted during their reading and writing learning. The students were all creative and gave the readers the choice of two different adventures. If you like to read your own adventure books let Mrs. Lapointe's students know and the young authors would be more than happy to share!

Many MSAD 54 employees joined the Skowhegan Chamber in celebrating this special occasion. Although not pictured, Dr. Mike Lambke and Erin Madore were also in attendance.
A sincere thank you to the Skowhegan Chamber for continuing the meaningful tradition of recognizing an outstanding educator each year.
