Once students have earned their puzzle piece for being kind as a class they will put them on the giant puzzle that is hung in the school lobby. The students at MCSCS are good at being kind so we are positive that our puzzle will fill up quickly.

Mrs. Allen's 5th Grade class planned a “gardening unit” to do with pre-k. On Tuesday, March 31st we showed a video about planting, explored larger Lima beans to understand a seeds make up, and then ended with a buddy read. The 5th graders checked out picture books that went along with gardening, vegetables and seeds last week from library. The 5th graders loved being teachers to the Pre-K students and that is what the Margaret Chase Smith Community School is all about
We wrapped up our unit by creating our very own classroom market. Students made their own goods, designed advertisements, discussed the value of their products, and had the exciting opportunity to sell their items to our Kindergarten friends.
It was a fun, hands-on experience that brought our learning to life!
Here are a few pictures from our shopping experience at Mrs. Crep's Class Market. The first graders have been working hard on their end of Unit 3 project. The 1st graders made goods for us to come and buy with Crep's cash. Some of the items included recycled crayons, sun-catchers, pens, beaded jewelry, and wood magnets.
This experience helped kindergartens think about how they could solve problems, create, and earn money. We then went back to class and wrote about ways we could make goods to sell.
With the help of Aspire River Hawks, all 4th grade students from the Margaret Chase Smith Community School were able to take a trip to the State House and Blaine House. Students toured both the Senate and House Chambers, and learned about signing up to be an Honorary Page! Thank you Aspire RiverHawks for the fun trip!
The students in Mrs. Ashe's class finished the read-a-thon with 5,638 minutes read as a classroom TEAM! To celebrate the students focused on free reading, reading classic stories like Robin Hood and King Arthur, and played games reviewing literary elements! Finding the love for reading is magical and the students have certainly found some fun!

Mrs. Noyes' 3rd Grade class joined Mrs. LaPointe's 4th Grade class to listen to the 4th graders read their adventure books that they crafted during their reading and writing learning. The students were all creative and gave the readers the choice of two different adventures. If you like to read your own adventure books let Mrs. Lapointe's students know and the young authors would be more than happy to share!
Many MSAD 54 employees joined the Skowhegan Chamber in celebrating this special occasion. Although not pictured, Dr. Mike Lambke and Erin Madore were also in attendance.

Students in Mrs Kent’s fourth grade started a new Module this week!. They worked together looking at resources in order to infer their new topic. The students will be learning about The Revolutionary War. surely great facts will be learned and the final projects at the end of the unit for reading and writing will reflect the learning.
Reading aloud books to your child at home helps to develop good habits, build comprehension and background knowledge. Thanks to families for reading and enjoying books at home.
March is Youth Art Month, and in celebration, Ms. Cates and Mrs. Haiss select pieces of artwork to be a part of Waterville Create's yearly student exhibition at the Ticonic Gallery on Main Street in Waterville. Please stop by to see the student's artwork on display.
Mrs. Allen's 5th graders partnered with Mr. Siren's Outdoor Leadership Program from the high school's SCTC program on Tuesday, March 17th and check out the fish they caught!!! No tall tales here! The students learned about the outdoors, ice fishing and just being together are all captured in the pictures. A super partnership between our older and younger students.
