On Saturday, February 28th. MCSCS hosted families for a Play and Learn that included a read aloud , crafts, games , play, snacks, and fun all focused on Construction. The library was quite active for the hour. The next Play and Learn will be on Saturday, March 21st from 9am-10am and the theme will be: Spring Flowers. The 4th Grade Classrooms will each have the opportunity to visit Augusta during the month of March. Their tour includes a visit to the Blaine House and eating lunch at the State House Cafe . A great experience for our 4th grade students. Enjoy the pics of Mrs. Seymour's class.

The Title One teachers at the MCSCS work alongside classroom teachers to utilize a student's academic strengths to accelerate and work towards filling in learning gaps. The Title One team meets many times a school year to monitor data, student growth, interventions and plan professional development for teachers and ed techs. We are thankful for out Title One Coaches and Interventionists.

The Cat in the Hat was on the loose at the MCSCS for READ ACROSS AMERICA week. The Cat played by our Principal, Mrs. Kreider, visited each classroom to read a Dr. Seuss book. The students loved the cat and her animated story telling!

The 5th Grade class will all have the opportunity the week of March 2nd to visit Colby College to learn about Maine Native Americans. Today Mr. Herrick and Mrs. Fissette's class went on the field trip and learned about Maine Native American cultures and the different types of weaving that the Native Americans create. Thank you Colby College for making these trips possible with funding for lunch, the art tour, and transportation.

Grade 4 participated in a virtual presentation through Acadia National Park about Amazing Animal Adaptations. Students learned how various Maine species use their bodies and behaviors to help them survive. The virtual visit connected beautifully with the 4th Grade ELA module about animal defense mechanisms. Check out the great notes and information the students gathered from the cool experience!

Today for Read Across America Week, in Mrs. Creps' First Grade classroom they focused on "Uniquely Me." The class spent the day exploring self-love and confidence through two beautiful stories: The Best Part of Me by Wendy Ewald and The Reflection in Me by Marc Colagiovanni and Peter Reynolds.
The best part of the day? Watching the children look in the mirror and practice saying exactly what they love about themselves! ❤️ After finding their favorite features, they took to their journals to write about the "best part" of who they are and why it’s special.
A quote from the day included, "I like my teeth because when my teeth fall out I get money.")

March Madness with a twist of BOOKS! The 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students at the MCSCS celebrated reading and kicked off March Madness with the revealing of read aloud books. The classes will read informational and fiction books and at the end of March the class votes will find the March Madness Book Champion. Have fun reading and good luck books!

They worked together to practice their math skills learned so far in the year, while trying to win the grand prize of $100,000! Students in first grade celebrated the Winter Olympics this week with a series of hands-on classroom events. Each day, students participated in a different activity inspired by an Olympic sport—ski jump, curling, skeleton, speed skating, and bobsled—while building their math and teamwork skills. Throughout the week, they practiced measuring distance and time, collecting and organizing data, and comparing results. Students also worked on collaboration, perseverance, and sportsmanship as they cheered on their classmates and reflected on their performances. It was a fun, engaging way to connect real-world events to learning while strengthening both academic and social skills

Mrs. Ashe's 5th grade students visited Mrs. Estabrooks' Kindergarten class for Buddy Reading and as you can see the partnerships bring many smiles to the older and younger students. Mrs. Ashe's students just completed a study of the rain forest and brought both their knowledge as well as books they had read to share with the Kindergarten students. Learning at the MCSCS is certainly a community experience.

Mrs. Ashe's 5th grade class ended their ELA Module about the Rainforest with a celebration that included family members and school guests. The students wrote informational pieces, poems and a narrative story with many facts and details about the Rainforest animals and environment. The students ended the celebration with a Reader's Theater written using the The Great Kapok Tree

Mrs. Seymour's class had an early Valentine’s celebration. After the Valentine's celebration the students ate lunch in their class room as a reward for the 4th grade students’ outstanding performance on their NWEA testing last week. Mrs. Seymour and all the students had a wonderful time and the kids enjoyed a “just us” lunch!

The 100th day of school was on Tuesday, February 10th and the students in Mrs. Hisler's 4th grade classroom came up with 100 Reasons they LOVE 4th grade. The spirit of friendship, learning and fun are full at the MCSCS.
